Mr Hare

11A have enjoyed a range of choosings since they started the new year, including making use of the common room to play pool, writing their own stories, designing their own games and activities and playing football and basketball outside.

In English this term we are focussing on our spoken language and discussion skills. Students will be discussing a number of different topics, learning what makes a good, valuable discussion. Students will prepare their own talk that they will give to an audience as part of their GCSE and Functional Skills. They will be able to do this about a topic of their choosing, creating visual aids to support the information they are presenting.

In Maths, we will be looking at statistics this term including representing data in graphs and the different ways to measure averages. At the end of the term we will be focusing on Pythagoras’ theorem for calculating missing angles and side lengths in right angled triangles.

This term in science, Y11 will be focussing on chemistry. First we will explore our fourth unit of chemistry - elements and chemical reactions. We will begin by looking at three groups within the periodic table of elements: group 1 - the alkali metals; group 7 - the halogens; and group 0 - the noble gases. We will then look at energy change, rates of reaction and reversible reactions before moving on to our fifth and final unit of chemistry - fuel's and the Earth's atmosphere.--
