Mr Hare's Crew

Mr Hare, Miss Rook and Miss Scott.

Welcome to Year 10!

We are really pleased to welcome you to Mr Hare's crew page.

You will find below the information on what we will be studying for each subject in the second term of Year 10.

Term 1 was a great success for the class. Our crew is called Polaris which is the fixed star in the Northern sky. It symbolises guidance, constancy and direction. Everyone came together in the first term of the year to reflect all of those traits. There were many highlights including a trip to the workhouse as part of our study of 'A Christmas Carol' in English. In enrichment pupils have decorated our windows with Autumn scenes and have designed and carved their own pumpkins.

Our crew team is:
 Mr Hare – Crew Teacher
 Miss Rook – Teaching Assistant
 Miss Scott – Teaching Assistant

Together, we support students to feel safe, happy, and ready to achieve their best.

What we are learning this term -

English
Students will continue their study of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. They will build on reading, writing, and analytical skills, focusing on character, theme, and social context, as well as developing creative writing.

Maths
In Maths we will be exploring algebra and mathematical equations in the first part of the term. The topic of the second part of the term will be geometry and angles.

Science
Last term, Year 10 looked at cells, microscopes, genetics (including DNA), as well as selective breeding and genetic engineering. There was lots of information to learn throughout the term, and pupils worked hard to achieve their learning outcomes.

This term, Science will focus on forces, movement, and energy. Within this topic, students will look at cars and their stopping distances, balanced and unbalanced forces, and acceleration, finishing off with energy transfers and energy resources.

GCSEs and BTECs
Year 10 is the start of the Key Stage 4 journey, and students will be working towards
a range of qualifications including GCSEs, BTECs, and Entry Level awards.

Home Cooking
Cooking lessons continue to give students the opportunity to explore practical life skills, creativity, and healthy living.

Construction

We will be covering Health and Safety in the workplace, and creating
a Timber product this term.

Creative Media
Students will continue exploring different media products, their audiences, and purposes, developing an understanding of how media is designed and targeted.

Travel and Tourism

We will be continuing to look at looking at UK Travel and Tourism, different types of
travel industries and the promotion of different travel services.

RSHE
This term in RSHE, students will learn about puberty and the changing body. Lessons provide a safe space to ask questions, develop knowledge, and understand how their bodies are changing.

Choosing Time
Choosing Time is an important part of our nurture approach, giving students the
chance to develop social skills, responsibility, and independence. Activities this term
will include:
 Board games
 Crafting and creative projects
 Working on different lego projects
 Football and other outdoor activities later in the term

We are looking forward to a positive and successful term ahead!
